Try Your Luck at Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the world’s most widely-played casino games and will have you screaming 21 while you enjoy going against the dealer in this game of skill and chance. Players can indulge in this exciting online casino game with between one to six packs of playing cards, depending on their gaming preference.

What are the Rules of Blackjack?

Blackjack offers players one of the highest degrees of control compared with all other table games, such as roulette. It is a card game between you and the dealer. You are dealt a two-card hand, which added together must equate 21 or just below. If you score over 21, you go bust, which means you are out. While number cards represent their face value, picture cards represent a 10. An Ace on the other hand, can either be valued at a 1 or 11 depending on what you prefer to have in your hand. The objective is to beat the dealer in one of the following ways:

  • Get 21 points on the player’s first two cards.
  • Reach a final score higher than the dealer without exceeding 21.
  • Let the dealer draw additional cards until his or her hand exceeds 21.

At Royal Vegas Online Casino, the dealer is forced to deal himself/herself cards even after he/she reaches 17. You as the player, have the choice to stay with whatever set of cards you are comfortable with – substantially increasing your chances of beating the dealer and winning.

Why is it called Blackjack?

Originally known as ‘21’, blackjack has an unknown origin. However, when 21 was introduced in the US, gambling houses offered bonus payouts to stimulate players. One such bonus was a ten-to-one payout if the player’s hand consisted of the ace of spades and a black jack (either the jack of clubs or the jack of spades). This winning hand was called ‘blackjack’ and the name has stuck around since.
